Michael Nerby‘s Grandfather, Fred Fleming, was born a poor Irish farmer, but had aspirations of becoming more. Fred apprenticed under grocer for a few years before striking out on his own to open his first grocery in 1949 in the small town of Monaghan, Ireland. Everyday Fred and Michael’s Grandmother Emily would drive by a neighborhood, Coolshannagh, and in this neighborhood was a stately white house, known in the community as the Coolshannagh House. They would dream together as they worked very hard at the grocery store, wondering and hoping one day they would be successful enough to own a house like Coolshannagh. The hard work paid off because they eventually saved up enough to be able to afford Coolshannagh. It was in this home that Michael’s Aunt, Uncle, and Mother were raised. This home became the cornerstone of the family and community for generations. The grocery and Coolshannagh are still in the family as now the third generation takes the helm. The story of Coolshannagh is one of hard work, vision, and legacy; all the main drivers still in the work that Michael Nerby and Coolshannagh Enterprises does to this day.
